Bickering in IOA continues as names of EC members, associate VPs and joint secretaries removed | More sports News

NEW DELHI: Indian Olympic Association‘s (IOA) infighting took an interesting turn on Monday after it was noticed that the names of the executive council members, associate vice presidents and associate joint secretaries have allegedly been removed from its website, prompting Indian weightlifting federation (IWLF) secretary general, Sahdev Yadav, to shoot off a mail to IOA president, Narinder Batra, to restore the normalcy.
Taking cognizance of the irregularity, Batra has written to IOA secretary general, Rajeev Mehta, with whom he has been at loggerheads for long over issues of misgovernance and unilateral decision-making, to immediately correct the anomaly, if any.
“Today, I am going through the website of the IOA and I am shocked to see that the names of members of the executive council, associate vice-presidents and associate joint secretaries have been removed from the website all of sudden. This action of removal of senior and seasoned members of the IOA, who are part of this important family is discriminating, unfair, with prejudice and partiality. The foul smell of biasness is coming through such uncalled actions. I condemn the person who is responsible for this act. The IOA family is tottering and collapsing from some dirty minds playing dirty politics,” wrote Yadav to Batra.
The IOA president, who has been quarantining at his Delhi residence after seven of his family members were taken positive for Covid-19 infection, directed Mehta to put the names back on the website on an “urgent and priority basis”. Batra also warned Mehta not to indulge in alleged unilateral decisions.
“…In case, it is done by mistake then request please have all the associate category executive council names put back on the IOA website. If they have been removed under your unilateral instructions, then I am requesting and advising you to have them put back on the IOA website on an urgent and priority basis,” Batra retorted.
The IOA has become a divided house after Batra accused IOA’s vice-president, Sudhanshu Mittal, of eyeing his chair to run for the 2021 IOA presidency and Mehta, IOA treasurer Anandeshwar Panday and IOA’s finance committee chairman Anil Khanna, among others, allegedly working at Mittal’s behest. Batra has maintained that he’s been working within the duties and powers vested in him as a president as per the IOA’s constitution.
Mittal, on the other hand, had claimed that he wasn’t in running for the president’s post in the December 2021 elections and that his fight was about upholding the ethos and stature of the IOA. However, he has been writing mails to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Hockey Federation (FIH), highlighting Batra’s alleged illegality in elections for the IOA and FIH‘s top post.
