Coronavirus: MHA’s safety guidelines for workplaces for Lockdown 3.0

According to the MHA’s new order, the lockdown now stands extended till May 17 with exceptions made for economic activities in red, orange and green zones.

  • The MHA’s order on May 1 was issued under the Disaster Management Act, 2005
  • Liquor/tobacco shops in green and orange zones have been allowed to open
  • Weddings with 50 attendees and funerals with 20 have been permitted

In an order on May 1, the Ministry of Home Affairs extended the nationwide lockdown for another 14 days. A number of economic activities have been permitted in districts depending upon their classification as green, orange and red zones.

The same order now allows private companies in green and orange zones to function with 33 per cent of their staff. However, the MHA has issued a strict set of guidelines that have to be followed by private companies to ensure the safety of workers.

  • Wearing face cover (masks) is compulsory in work places
  • All persons in charge of workplaces and transport shall ensure social distancing
  • Social distancing at workplaces to be ensured through adequate gaps between shifts, staggering the lunch breaks of staff among other measures
  • Provisions of thermal scanning, hand wash and sanitisers to be made available at all entry and exit points and common areas
  • Frequent sanitisation of workplaces and common areas
  • Persons above 65 years of age, persons with co-morbidities, pregnant women and children below 10 years to stay at home
  • Arogya Setu app to be made mandatory for all employees
  • Large physical meetings to be avoided
  • A list of nearby dedicated Covid-19 hospitals/clinics and quarantine facilities to be made available to employees
  • Arrangements for transport facilities to be ensured with social distancing wherever personal since public transport is not feasible
  • Intensive employee training in good hygiene
